[BUG-8964] Catastrophic rendering failure #16523

Steps to Reproduce

quite literally anything. The problem appears to be persistant in all gameplay conditions ans situations. Especially agitating include changing appearance and rendering new environments.

Actual Behavior

Massive unavoidable graphics errors render the game essentially unplayable, including but not limited to: environment textures missing or stretching, character textures missing or stretching, character models having two skins at once creating a "burnt" look, and in some cases, a total inability to change location. These errors tax my CPU enough to generate lag, making the game both visually and mechanically unstable.

Expected Behavior

I expect a functioning game, quite simply... I frankly can't believe that a game in this state was published. I can't give you too much heat about the fact that it takes time to load all the resources in a specific world in the first minutes upon launch, but I expect them to arrive eventually. In the current state of the game, 80% functionality seems to be a quite lofty goal that my PC is sometimes able to meet. Simply loading a location is not enough, (despite it being currently unreasonable to expect) I expect ALL the functions of the game to be operable, including the ability to change appearance and warp to a new location.

Other information

It looks like a great game on youtube. I can't wait to play it.

Heya MarvelousMarcel,

It isn't clear exactly what problems you are having without seeing images showing the issues but I can take a guess.

You mention "stretching" problems. You are new so you are probably still wearing one of the starter avatars so I'm fairly sure your streatching problem is BUG-5139 / BUG-5156.

To fix all cases of this bug, you will need to be using at least the 14.4 Catalyst driver version - you are currently using 8.17.0010.1230, which is the 13.9 Catalyst driver. A temporary workaround to the avatar stretching issue is to go to Me -> Preferences -> Graphics -> Advanced and untick "Hardware skinning". Once your driver is updated, tick hardware skinning again to be sure this problem is fixed.

The situation is not quite as simple as updating your driver to the latest version (the 14.12 catalyst omega drivers) because this driver has a different bug (see BUG-7653) which causes all rigged mesh to be invisible unless hardware skinning is disabled.

You need to update to either the 14.4 or the 14.9 Catalyst driver version in order to fix the avatar stretching bug and to avoid the invisible rigged mesh bug. You can find the 14.4 and 14.9 driver versions here: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop/previous?os=Windows%207%20-%2064 Alternatively, you can update to the 15.3 Catalyst beta driver, which will fix the streatching problem and AMD also fixed the invisible rigged mesh problem in this driver version - see https://modemworld.wordpress.com/2015/03/21/amds-catalyst-15-3-beta-driver-offers-sl-mesh-fix/ for details.

....character models having two skins at once creating a "burnt" look

I suspect the problem here is that either yourself or other new avatars you are seeing have removed the alpha layer that needs to be worn with the starter avatars to hide the standard avatar under the mesh avatar. If what you are seeing looks like the image below, then this is the problem: http://www.caledonoxbridge.org/guardian/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/Newbie-av-236x300.jpg

This article explains very well how to fix this problem and also explains how to modify your avatar appearance for new residents: http://www.caledonoxbridge.org/guardian/2014/08/02/avatars-reload/

You also mentioned problems with being able to teleport. If you cannot teleport to another location and you get disconnected when you try, then this can be either a problem on the region you are trying to teleport out of or into or a connection issue.

If you are still having rendering issues after updating your graphics drivers, can you attach images to this issue showing the problems you are seeing. You can attach images under More Actions -> Attach files.

Thanks!
