[BUG-9067] CLONE (Still broken! Please Fix!) - Adobe FlashPlayer (Update Version: 17.0.0.169)11.8.x & Mac OS X: media streaming broken, black or blank video screen, only sound plays ok #16611

Closed sl-service-account closed 8 months ago

sl-service-account commented 9 years ago

Steps to Reproduce

trying to playback the videos at the E² – MEDIADROME: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Titus%20Groan/115/252/2002

it tooked me while to figure out that the updated flashplayer caused this issue.

after deinstalling it with the uninstaller: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-mac-os.html

and reinstalling the pre version 11.7: http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/licensing/mac/install_flash_player_11_7_osx.dmg

[ UPDATE: This older version is no longer available ]

everything worked like it should again ...

Actual Behavior

since flash player version 11.8.800.115 and newer beta versions for mac, video and websites containing video can't be watched inworld anymore. streaming works but the video screen stays black, only the sound of the media can be heard

Expected Behavior

video should be visible

Other information

downgrade back to flash 11.7 if you are on a mac and want to watch video inworld!

i filled out a report about that issue at the adobe bugbase: https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3597462

but as they are waiting for votes for that bug, it may take some time till they might escalate this bug to management team and fix it ...

so if you encounter the same bug on your system, please give it a vote on the adobe bugbase!

reportet as well on the firestorm jira: http://jira.phoenixviewer.com/browse/FIRE-11057

today, mr. Jing Yuan from the adobe support team asked me to do a video-proof from the bug i reported here …

i'm sorry, as i already spended hours to figure out, making it traceable and reporting it to jiras in asking to take care of:

https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3597462 https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MATBUG-366 http://jira.phoenixviewer.com/browse/FIRE-11057 http://e2.ga-weblog.com/2013/07/16/issues-with-flashplayer-version-11-8/ http://teno-tc.blogspot.com/2013/07/checking-and-examining-cables.html

right now i can't efford the time for such video and everyone reading this with the same bug are pleased to do so and report, comment, vote it in the provided links to the bug-databases.

here is a link to a screen capture recording software: http://www.techsmith.com/download/jing/

pls fix this soon! thx

Also see BUG-2589 (I don't think this issue is the same as BUG-2589 but I'm not 100% sure).

From BUG-5368:

Jaerik added a comment - 12/Mar/14 9:38 PM

Chris Campbell, a developer for Adobe, talks about exactly what the problem is in the SL viewer that is causing this in the comments found on the Firestorm JIRA for the exact same issue - http://jira.phoenixviewer.com/browse/FIRE-11057

"In Flash Player 11.8.47, Adobe removed the last remaining legacy code that was supporting QuickDraw (and CarbonEvents) as per Apple's recommendation (QuickDraw has been deprecated for years). We have a product called AIR that also embeds Webkit which can in turn use Flash Player. After making the change to remove QuickDraw, we had to change AIRs' embedded WebKit at the same time so that AIR's WebKIt would not use QuickDraw either but instead use CoreGraphics and CocoaEvents. Since SecondLife is apparently also embedding WebKit, they will need to apply the same kind of changes that we did in our embedded WebKit if they want to use more recent versions of the Flash Player."

This problem has existed since the summer of last year and makes most of the media in SL useless on Mac since so many videos are flash.

thx martin for the comment! glad this possibility is back again with the new jira version.

i wonder what the problem at lindenlab is, in not being able to fix this ...

by trying to run a place that builds upon and needs the essential of media streaming, my patience on waiting for almost 8 month for that fix, started to turn me down and i had to reconsider my priorities to other things than SL: http://e2.ga-weblog.com/?p=3430

still looking forward to come back, if its not too late already ...

Heya Teno,

Would you mind if this bug report was set to public access? Someone filed a duplicate of it at BUG-5368 and they would like to see this report.

If you dont mind doing this, you can edit this issue and change the security level to "Public" - currently it is set to "Triagers and reporters". Thanks!

Can you please fix this issue before 10th of May? i would like to watch the Eurovision song contest with my friends in SL without having to install an older version of Flash with all its security holes.

Marissa Linden commented at 2014-04-18T17:49:37Z

I reproduced this back in August and we imported the jira as an internal issue. As we work on it the workaround currently is to roll back Flash to 11.7.

thx to let us know, finally, marissa! for security reasons i would not suggest to get back to flash 11.7.x!

I also have this problem and it will not work for me..

Whirly Fizzle commented at 2015-04-18T18:09:51Z

The only work around for now is to use an older version of Flash player (earlier then 11.8) - though you may not wish to do this for security reasons and also if you use Safari browser, earlier versions of Flash will not work.

Linden Lab are working on a fix for this problem - the outdated webkit is being replaced with Chrome Embedded Framework - see OPEN-218
