the graphics issue seems to have been resolved since someone went into my account and did maintenance earlier or thats what the popup message said.

Heya Road,
You listed both Firestorm viewer and the Linden Lab viewer in your comment above. Just to clarify, are you seeing the same slow logout problem with both viewers?
When you quit the viewer, is the viewer itself taking a long time to run through the logout process? Or is the problem that the viewer runs through the logout process and quits quickly but you cannot login again until a few minutes have passed because the server end still thinks you are online?
Can you reproduce this problm using the latest version of the LL viewer from https://secondlife.com/support/downloads/ Login, wait at least a few minutes and then logout. Then attempt to login again and reproduce the "begun the logout process" error and then quit the viewer. Then before relaunching the viewer, zip up your logs folder and attach it to this issue using More Actions -> Attach files. This page tells you where to find your logs folder: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-report-a-bug/ta-p/733545#Section_.3
Thanks!
