[BUG-9284] fitted mesh showing inaccuracies (e.g. gaps) with increasing location height #16803

Open sl-service-account opened 9 years ago

sl-service-account commented 9 years ago

Steps to Reproduce

wearing the fitted mesh body i made (same happens for some other fitted mesh items i have in my inventory which are not made by me), fly up to about 2000 meters.

Actual Behavior

2 parts of a fitted mesh body don't fit at the seam anymore when going to greater heights in secondlife. E.g. they fit nicely at 20 meters but start to show a noticable seam at about 2000, which seems getting worse with greater heights.

Expected Behavior

I expected having no seam

Other information

the mesh models have been uploaded using 3ds max 2010 using the collada 2011.3. vertex weights have been copied over the seam exactly. I am not sure if this is a collada exporter issue. There seem to be ways to not have seams with fitted mesh under these circumstances (judging from other creators items).

I see this problem with my kemono mesh body sometimes after teleporting from one region with a lot of mesh rendered to one without. Detaching and reattaching fixes the it.

hi lucia, i know that problem too: mesh being in a kind of limbo/Low LOD state after tp, but this one is unrelated to it i am pretty sure. It occurs just while you fly/tp up to another height while the mesh detail level is not changing

For the issue discussed in the comments (which appears to be a different problem then filed I think?) see: BUG-6803 BUG-7239 BUG-8806

I'm curious if the filed problem may be related to the fact that an avatar will start to break down as you go higher in altitude. If you go very high, the effect is obvious. Example of what happens to an avatar at 1 million meters: https://my.secondlife.com/whirly.fizzle/snapshots/544d73c3128cc97320000001?version=original :D

Hi Babette,

Thank you for reporting this issue. I believe there are two possible paths to investigate what is happening.

  1. This is a mesh issue, in which case it may very well be related to what Whirly has already linked to in her comment.

  2. This is a known issue related to high altitude positioning inaccuracies that affects all attachments, not just mesh.

Will you please confirm that the mesh avatar behaves as expected near elevation 0 and gets even worse well above 4000m. As with whirly's other comment and image about being 1mil meters high.

Thank you
