you are using a viewer with the Avatar Rendering Complexity feature enabled. that mean that avatars that are "too heavy" to render will be a solid color to reduce viewer lag.

http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Avatar_Rendering_Complexity

you can change that by going to Me > Preferences > Graphics > advanced settings. and on the left under Avatar you can set the value to your liking and how powerful pc you have or disable it by moving the slider far right to "no limit". http://i.imgur.com/EK1O3u3.png

since this will be enabled in future updates you can keep the current viewer or download and install a version which doesn't have that functionality at all.

Heya David,

When you try to render the avatars fully and the viewer crashes, can you explain in more detail what you are doing and when the viewer crashes? Does the viewer crash as soon as you right click an avatar or does the viewer crash when you click the "Render Fully" option in the context menu? Does this crash happen when you try to render any avatar fully or just certain avatars?

Can you reproduce this crash and then before relaunching the viewer, zip up your logs folder & attach it to this issue using More Actions -> Attach files. This page tells you where to find your logs folder: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-report-a-bug/ta-p/733545#Section_.3

Thanks :)
