[BUG-134246] Screen issues #2272

Open sl-service-account opened 7 years ago

sl-service-account commented 7 years ago

Steps to Reproduce

I'd only just started playing. I was exploring the learning island. I also notice it happens more when I engage the menus

Actual Behavior

My second life viewer keeps flashing intermittently. It will stop briefly for 30 seconds then goes again. I don't know if it is the application itself or a graphics issue but it seems that application is trying to close itself

Expected Behavior

That it run smoothly without the screen flashing as if it is trying to close the spplication

Hiya Cyranon,

It's hard to say what the problem is without seeing how it looks when the screen flashes.

When the screen flashes, does the viewer screen turn black & show "not responding" in the top bar, then recover & then go "not responding" again? Or can you still see the world view & the user interface in the viewer & the graphics just flash really quickly, like a flicker?

The usual cause of "not responding" is the viewer is really low on memory or the graphics card is struggling. You have enough RAM, so I don't think memory is the problem. I'm not too sure about your "AMD Radeon HD 7640G + HD 7670M Dual Graphics" combination though, I've never seen anyone with that dual graphics setup on SL. Usually when the system has dual graphics, the viewer will only list one card in the system information - the card that the viewer is actually using. Looking at https://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-HD-7640G-HD-7670M-Dual-Graphics.81172.0.html, this combination seems to be a bit unusual & that page notes that it can suffer from micro stuttering. It also appears that this system uses a CrossFire setup (by default?) & unfortunately Second Life viewers do not support CrossFire, so I wonder if this is the cause of the flickering. I'm not familiar with this kind of system, but if there is an option to disable CrossFire & set the SL viewer to only use the AMD Radeon HD 7670M graphics card then please try this.

The driver version you have installed (15.200.1055.0) is fairly up to date, so I don't think that's the problem. However you can check for driver updates here: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download You can use the AMD auto-detect tool to automatically check for any driver updates: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/auto-detect-tool Note that some laptops have locked OEM drivers that can only be updated via the laptop manufacturers website. The auto-detect tool should tell you if this is the case.

If none of this helps, please can you record a short video showing the screen flashing & comment back here with a link to your video.

Thanks!
