[BUG-17347] I cannot log into Second Life without it crashing at least two or three times. #2567

Steps to Reproduce

I was trying to log into my viewer. Whenever the viewer would finish loading, the screen will go great and I instantly get the message "You've been logged out of Second Life."

Actual Behavior

Every time I try to login, I crash before my avi even gets a chance to hit the ground. I've tried everything from clearing my cache to lowering my graphics which are literally set at the lowest setting right now. I have never had this problem like this until I installed the last update. I'm a mac user and all of my software is up to date and I have the latest update for SL as well. Times when I have been successful at logging in, things are usually very laggy, even on the lowest graphics level.

Expected Behavior

I was expecting to be logged into Second Life.

This has been happening for about two weeks. Every now and then I can successfully log in and stay on for about an hour before crashing.

Heya Waisting,

If you are seeing "You've been logged out of Second Life." then you are getting disconnected, rather then crashing.

Does this disconnect happen no matter which region you login to or just when logging into a certain region? Firstly try logging in directly to a different region. If you only get disconnected after logging into a certain region then this region probably needs to be restarted.

If you have this same problem no matter what region you login to then the problem is most likely to be your connection or router/modem or possibly a problem with that accounts inventory. Test if you have the same problem when logging in with an alt account. If you only have this problem on one account then there is likely a problem with its inventory (for example a crazy number of duplicated calling cards or a very large flat inventory structure). Linden Lab support can help you diagnose any inventory problems like this and fix them for you.

If you have the same problem no matter which avatar you login with then power off your router/cable modem for a few minutes and reboot your computer. If you are using a wireless connection, wire up and see if this fixes the problem.

If none of the above helps then you should contact Linden Lab support directly for help with troubleshooting this problem. You can contact LL support by submitting a support case form at https://support.secondlife.com/contact-support/

Hope that helps :)

Forgot to add, if you are using Norton antivirus, then there is a problem with the current Norton version that has been causing people to often get disconnected and also to see duplicated chat posts/group notices etc.

If you are using Norton, totally remove Norton from your system using the Norton removal tool from https://support.norton.com/sp/en/uk/home/current/solutions/kb20080710133834EN_EndUserProfile_en_us Then reinstall Norton & the problem should be fixed.
