This sounds like Dan's portal bug - similar issues are filed at BUG-40458, BUG-40506, MAINT-6291 (Dan's internal issue?). For (as yet) unknown reasons, when the avatar is teleported via script (send home via security orb or the experience enabled portal teleports on LL's social islands & the Firestorm gateway), the teleport partially fails & the avatar ends up stuck in the void & cannot move. Relogging should fix the problem.
You said you couldn't log back in though. Are you still having problems getting logged in?

I went through the portal for newcomers

Stuck in the sky just a head and torso (avatar unloaded)
Expected Behavior
I was expecting to see the chat room but i was stuck in the sky and my torso was unloaded and now I cant even log into my game
