[BUG-225158] Inconsistent default graphics settings with relation to current mainstream viewer as well as 'recommended settings' button #4027

What just happened?

Switching from a specific av complexity filter to default from the 'Graphic Presets' menu, found in the top right corner.

What were you doing when it happened?

I turned on complexity filters to test the jellydoll features concerning Animesh. After reverting to default settings from the 'Graphic Presets' button (top right), i found that local lights and shaders had been disabled.

What were you expecting to happen instead?

The 'default' settings present in the Graphic Presets area are now wildly different when compared to the mainstream viewer. Whereas these are the settings from the current mainstream viewer (v. 5.0.6.326589) : https://i.gyazo.com/85075d5d8c8b9be84cd6235b8c44b6f6.png

these are the settings from the most recent Animesh build (v. 6.0.0.518080): https://i.gyazo.com/d9aa72542a9e8610dbf6ee04067cab0a.png

Additionally, clicking 'Reset to recommended settings' does not produce the same settings: https://i.gyazo.com/aae7fae616a98d54766052dee0a9f3fa.png

Other information

It looks like maybe the defaults for my graphic card may have changed significantly? At the very least a regression from using local lights and basic shaders is not desirable, expected, nor consistent with previous default settings.

Additionally, 'recommended settings' should accurately reflect default settings.

Hi Aki,

Second Life 5.0.6.326589 is over a year old version of SL now. Will you please compare the results again using the latest release from https://secondlife.com/support/downloads/

Please press the Info Provided button when you update this issue.

Thanks!

Attempting with a fresh download of 5.1.6 resulted in default settings behaving much as the Animesh viewer did. I will say that this drastic behaviour of removing local light and basic shaders was not present in the previous Animesh build. I've now tested the most recent mainstream viewer as well as the most recent Bakes on Mesh viewer and now all three are exhibiting the same. Is there some sort of default file I may have messed up? I find it quite unusual that the viewer defaults should recommend a 424m draw distance, yet remove local lights and basic shaders. This default setting is still inconsistent with 'recommended settings'.

I can't reproduce this on Second Life Project Animesh 6.0.0.518080 (64bit).

The graphics preset settings are stored in C:\Users[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife\AvatarFirstname_Lastname\presets\graphic on Windows. Can you attach the file called Default.xml from this folder to this JIRA issue using More Actions -> Attach Files.

I guess deleting the Default.xml file will probably fix your problem though.

One way to reproduce this:

Hi Aki,

Does Whirly's advice to reset your Default graphics preset resolve the issue in the latest SL release viewer and Animesh viewer?

Please let me know.

THanks!

Reporting back to say that Whirly's fix does work on my end. I'm not at all sure why or how local lights/basic shaders would have been switched off though. I have no circumstances where I would have deliberately sought out such a setting for use, let alone set it as a default.

Hi Aki,

Thanks for the update! We've got an internal report filed now to prevent changing the Default setting.

Thanks!
