[BUG-226667] Ability to set "Do Not Disturb" before logging in. #5150

How would you like the feature to work?

As per my conversation with Oz Linden I'm posting this Jira ticket. On the log-in screen I'd like there to be an option to be set "Do Not Disturb" upon logging in.

A checkbox or a drop down selection next to the log-in button would work. This way the moment a user with this selected logs in, they are already set as "do not disturb", so any incoming IMs get notified that the user is in Do Not Disturb mode and will not see their messages until they leave Do Not Disturb mode.

I'm really not picky with how this handles offline IMs. If it's possible to allow offline messages to load, but any new messages will be blocked by the Do Not Disturb mode, that would be my preference, but if that is not possible I am okay with the risk of missing offline IMs. I have them sent to my email in any case.

In a previous Jira I'd also requested "silent log-in". Speaking with Oz it seems this was misunderstood. All I meant by that was upon logging in, people in my contact list would not receive a "username has logged in" message. I don't care if scripts could still see I was online, I'm fine with showing as online in my friend's contact lists, all it would do is suppress the "username has logged in" message. That's ALL. I would still very much like this to be a part of the feature if that is at all possible. If that is not possible that's fine, not great but I can live without that part so long as I could still log in "Do Not Disturb".

Why is this feature important to you? How would it benefit the community?

I use SL both for recreation and for business. My contact list is filled with both actual friends as well as business contacts. Frequently I need to log in and quickly deal with something and I don't always have time to field all of the messages I get immediately upon logging in.

I have had to set myself as "hidden" to nearly my entire Contact List because frequently I was logging in and receiving upwards of 15 IMs from contacts, before the SL interface had even appeared on my screen. (The most I've gotten was twenty-something. Until I hid from my contact list it was at least 2-4 messages every time I logged in.) To be absolutely clear, I'm not talking about offline IMs here, I'm talking new messages sent because my contacts get the "username has logged in" message before I've even finished logging in and have a chance to set myself "Do Not Disturb".

Ultimately, not having this feature has made SL a less social experience for me and I know I'm not alone in this. I've spoken with several content creators who say the lack of such a feature often causes them to avoid logging in to SL altogether. Because they know the moment they do they will get swarmed.

This feature is for content creators, sim owners, and those who do business in Second Life to better manage incoming messages when they are logging in to SL to focus on a specific task, or simply do not have time to remain logged in beyond whatever task they logged in to complete.

This needs review for complexity and a design before it moves forward.
