[BUG-10007] Description field changing name using VMM and Linden's Viewer #6

Closed sl-service-account closed 9 months ago

sl-service-account commented 9 years ago

Steps to Reproduce

Refilling orders for no copy Zooby Baby Clothes (script is no copy). Process. Put script into clothing bag, bring to inventory, drag to last file in the empty VMM file (if I put it anywhere else, it duplicates the item, so I'm not clear yet how to use the folder system, but the sales are going through and no problems with anything yet, other than this one issue.

Actual Behavior

I emptied all my magic boxes and prepared to list them with the Viewer Managed Marketplace with the Official Linden Viewer.

I listed each one, around 200, by associating the item. No problems at all doing this. But, later when went to fill orders (received email that I was out of certain products), I noticed the items ordered had changed the description field to "Pat A Kake Baby Tux Red," on over 1/4 of my listings, maybe more. I changed everyone back, page by page, then, the next day, all the items ordered switched to this incorrect listing in the description field. I'm guessing it happens with the order but not all of the orders to this (new items listing incorrectly since this post were not refilled so this no longer applies). So I can't duplicate the problem but it's happening through out the day. My items are no copy due to a script that is only transferable.

Update 5:35 same day: After filing this, I discovered I have other items with wrong names in the description fields. Not Tux name, but random other item names that were "associated," when listed. Update 5:40 same day: I JUST DUPLICATED THIS BEHAVIOR BY ASSOCIATING A NEW ITEM. Put the associated number into "Pat A Kake Construction Blue Boy," description field changed to: "

Expected Behavior

Just add items for sale, without any changes to the descriptions.

Other information

I'm concerned this will hurt sales if people are, say, wishing to buy a dress, but the description says it's a Red Tux.

There you can see it. Description is wrong. This was a previously Magic Box item that is no copy item and I just added to my store.

Faye, is this still happening? Or are things back to normal?

It happened once today while refilling a sold out no copy item that delisted after the sale. Refilled item called, "Sweet Nothing Onesie," and it changed the description to "Baby Tux Red," again. I haven't gone through my entire inventory again yet. Linden just converted my remaining (non Magic Box) Items. I'll finish up checking. Thanks for fixing my Jira. I'm a newbie at filing Jiras.

This was a change of description names AFTER I fixed all the ones this morning. HELP ME. Also, you delisted my entire store this morning. I've spent HOURS relisting everything. Why is this happening? What is going on?

sl-service-account commented 9 years ago

Brooke Linden commented at 2015-07-29T23:26:37Z

Faye, we have finally been able to reproduce this problem with renaming and are working on determining a way to fix this. If you do take this to Twitter, let users know they should report any issues in JIRA so we can follow up. We'd like to know about them so we can address them.

As far as the crash goes, please do let us know what you were doing before the crash and we will do our best to investigate.

Hi Brooke, what about the delisting? I've been delisted twice, once yesterday and today! Do I set up a new Jira? I spent two ours relisting and now I'm delisted again "We have unlisted your listings because the version folders are empty. You need to add items to the version folders to list again." I sell no copy items (the script in my clothing is no copy); thus, after a sale, one or two will be empty but it's unlisting most of my store. I spent 2 hours relisting all this yesterday. It is also reverting everything back to the original listing, so any changing of the listing is gone, such as URLs, or descriptions of the products. This is monkey work.

This is what I woke up to this morning.

Brooke Linden commented at 2015-07-30T20:31:12Z

Thanks, Faye. We wondered if the unlisting was related to the crash. We'll take a look at that as well.

Also, do you know you can bulk list items in your store through the web marketplace?

The name changing is continuing. I can't duplicate it. Although, it definitely often changed when an item is purchased and inventory goes to zero. Another thing, most have one word the same, "Baby." Image attached today.

Thank you for all the help.

Screen Shot today, August 2, this was not all of them. I'd already changed four.

My store was migrated on July 30. I experienced a large number of items going unlisted on the 31st. They were reactivated manually on the 31st. On August 2, at approximately 9pm SLT, I discovered that 28 of my items had the incorrect descriptions. On the morning of August 3, I corrected all the errors.

Arwen Serpente commented at 2015-08-03T12:04:15Z

Adding a comparison picture of a few of the products that had incorrect descriptions (there were 28, I did not take screenshots of all 28) and what they were prior to the Migration.

** PLEASE restore the "Object" field to the Merchant Home-> Manage Listings section. It existed prior to the change to VMM. Now we only see the product description. Having BOTH the object and the description allows Merchants to check their work quickly and efficiently. Had the object field existed, I would not have had to go through my store, product by product, page by page to discover where the description errors were. I always used the Object and Description fields as accuracy checks after listing a product. PLEASE RESTORE IT. **

My listing names have been reverted to previous versions. I am attaching a pic of the updated, now missing name as avaialbe to select, so I know it was enetered at some point.

Brooke Linden commented at 2015-08-03T18:16:05Z

Thank you for the information. The "Object" field has been replaced by the "SL object name", which shows the name of your listing folder in the viewer.

If anyone can give us a time period of when the item was last seen with the correct name and first seen with the incorrect name, that would be helpful. We're trying to narrow this down, and timing will help us.

Arwen Serpente commented at 2015-08-03T18:27:16Z, updated at 2015-08-03T18:35:48Z

It's post migration, Brooke. In my case, that means the descriptions started changing on July 31 after my store was migrated. I noticed last night as I saw some MP email sales confirmations and didn't even recognize the product description. As I then started to look product by product, it became evident that there were random changes.

When you refer to the "Object" field, I think you are referring to the VMM folder in the viewer. I do not use the viewer to adjust listing copy. I use the website: the Merchant Home->Manage Listings page. It does not have an "SL Object name" - It has one column for "Listing Name" which is the description we give it, it is not the Object name. In the DD manage listings section, we had 2 columns: one for the Object Name/Item name, and, one for the Listing name/description given by the Merchant. We need both columns in order to accurately check our work without having the page through product by product.

To better see what I'm talking about, take a look at Faye's screen capture dated 822015 (the 5th picture attached above) - that shows the Manage Listings page in the Merchant Home. The top half was for DD - it is now empty, but shows the columns that I am referring to: Item Name AND Listing Name. Below that in the VMM section, only the Listing Name column is there. The Item name is gone.

re: SL Object name: Ah, yes, thanks for pointing out that screen. I was referring to when you are editing an individual listing. There are some technical challenges to that request, which is why we did not include the folder name. We can investigate adding it back in, since it sounds like it is a useful field.

By timing I mean something like: Yesterday at 9:30pm SLT, I looked at this listing and it was fine. This morning at 10am SLT, it was changed. It's not likely that you've noticed this up until now, but if you do have a better timing window (perhaps from looking at sales emails?), that would be very helpful.

Arwen Serpente commented at 2015-08-03T18:53:48Z

Yes, you are understanding what I'm talking about now with respect to the SL Object Name and the Merchant Home website.

Last night at 9pm SLT, I noticed some sales notifications come to my email - I did not recognize the description name. I was in bed (midnight my time) and just checking on my mobile phone before going to sleep. When I saw the incorrect description name, I used the link to go to the MP website and saw the mismatch between the product and the description. I took a quick look at the store on my phone and started to see other errors. It was too late to get up, turn on the computer and fix them. So I waiting until this morning to do it. I took a few screenshots for you (above) and then fixed the descriptions.

The first error in product description that I can track through sales notifications occurred on Aug 1 at 3:26 AM EST or 00:26 AM SLT.

Pamela Galli commented at 2015-08-03T19:34:05Z, updated at 2015-08-03T19:37:15Z

What I am talking about is that the listing name of a house, for example Montecito, reverted to the the original, first, name of the ASSOCIATED OBJECT, Montecito House Boxed – which was never the Listing name, and is not now the associated object name, since several updates of the house.

In the past there was never any dropdown for listing name, we just typed it in. No idea why a dropdown was considered useful to have.

Five (5) more descriptions changed over night. Yesterday they were correct, today they are the name of the object, not the description that I had given them. id numbers: 6373294 6373291 6373292 6373290 6373289

Going to correct them now.

Hello Arwen Serpente,

I wanted to ask if any of the specific product IDs you listed in your last comment have reverted back to the incorrect listing name?

6373294 6373291 6373292 6373290 6373289

Also if you have any information about how those listings were originally created (for example were they setup originally as Magic Box listings) and migrated to VMM that would be very helpful. Thank you for your assistance.

Hi Kurt, they have stayed correct since I updated them. Happily, I can say that I have not seen a change in description in the past 24 hours. And trust me, I am watching them like a hawk. Those listings were set up via the Direct Delivery System.

Arwen Serpente commented at 2015-08-06T17:27:15Z, updated at 2015-08-06T17:43:56Z

(so sorry for all the edits) Just found 4 more that changed: 6350895 - listed through DD in 2014 6350894 - listed through DD in 2014 1219464 - listed through magic box in 2010 1219463 - listed through magic box in 2010 They have changed to the name of the object, not the name I gave in when filling out the description field when listing them. Going to go and correct them now.

Please, I'm begging you, add back the Item Name Column on the Merchant Home/Manage Listings portion of the MP website. Going through my listings every day trying to find changes is very time consuming and inefficient. If we were just able to visually scan two columns (Item Name vs Listing Name) next to each other (the way we could in DD manage listings), inconsistencies would be much easier and quicker to spot.

Yes, please dont strip out yet more functionality with VMM. Enough has already been removed.

And please make the dates on the managed inventory page reflect the date the object for sale, the associated object, was uploaded, not when the listing was created. i have objects i have updated many times that still show a date of 2009!

This JIRA has now been resolved. We are tracking adding the Folder Name for the listing into the Merchant Listings view separately.
