[BUG-228202] Group Notice text showing up in Group Chat

What just happened?

I have been told that the group notice text is showing up in group chat. I do not use group chat for any group to advertise.

What were you doing when it happened?

Sending group notice in the 25L Tuesdays Connection group group key = 38f6de2d-4cf7-ff99-34f6-fe3c3eb0e695

What were you expecting to happen instead?

that the notice would be sent without copying the text into group chat. Example text shown below as reported to me by the group owner. This is causing complaints from group members and resulted in my posting rights removed. This is impeding my ability to do business to the extent that should be available to me.

Hiya Kate,

This isn't a bug, it's a feature ;) When group notices are sent, the text from the group notice will also appear in that groups chat for all users of that group who are currently online & have not closed the group chat down for that session. On Firestorm you can locally choose not to see any group notices in the group chats by going to Preferences -> Chat -> Notices -> Untick "Show group notices in group chats in addition to toasts". This setting is something each user will have to change if they wish not to see group notice text within their group chats, there isn't a setting that you or any other group member who sends group notices can change to stop your group notice text also being sent to the group chat.

The Linden Lab viewer also has this same feature that sends group notice text to the group chat, but as far as I can see, there is no way for Linden Lab viewer users to disable seeing the notice text in their group chats at all. Also to note - if some of the complaints are from people who keep repeatedly seeing older group notice texts appear in their group chat each time they open the group chat, then these people need to clean out their saved notifications - some people keep a couple of hundred old notices without cleaning them out. They need to clean out their old notices here: https://prnt.sc/r0ugco

Hi Kate,

As Whirly describes this is expected behavior and you're not doing anything wrong.

That said, the behavior you're describing could be reworded into a Feature Request. You may want to review how to file a good Feature Request with this article. https://community.secondlife.com/blogs/entry/3187-inara-pey-sl-jira-tutorial-part-2-feature-requests/

For example, the body of the Notice appears in group chat as if it were a "chat message" from you. It does not do well at identifying itself as a group notice in group chat and may give the impression that you are "spamming" group chat as opposed to posting a group notice.
