[BUG-229999] Crappy SL feature request that LL will close and ignore #2: super awesome outfit view! #7752

How would you like the feature to work?

References:

sighs

Imagine when you decide to make a new outfit/look... four windows appear on your screen:

[body sliders] [avatar view] [HUD layer] [inventory]

The avatar view window would let you spin your avatar, change lighting, change camera angles and all of that fun stuff. I think I've explained the other views already.

LL: can you please break this up into separate feature requests so that we no longer understand the full context?

Flower: no... please just close this feature request and ignore it.

Why is this feature important to you? How would it benefit the community?

Except people are limited by how crappy the "outfit" experience is in SL.... there, I said it. I *wish* we were limited by our imagination!\r\n\r\nYou\'d think... that LL, with all of its grand wisdom, would have made this incredibly ubiquitous past time in SL... easy and intuitive. And if you thought that, you would be wrong! Don\'t worry, it is not your fault for being wrong.\r\n\r\nWhat is grand wisdom anyway? Never mind... it\'s not important.\r\n\r\nWhat to do... what to do... Wait! I have an idea! What if we made trying out outfits easy and fun and intuitive! Woah... what a neat idea!\r\n\r\nLL: yeah, yeah... what problem are we trying to solve?\r\nFlower: ... really?\r\nLL: yeah, like what are the key challenges people face when making outfits today?\r\nFlower: have you ever logged into SL?\r\n\r\nWhat happens today is that creators put their HUDs in all random places and you have to move your inventory window around endlessly to avoid HUDs and attach and detach or move HUDs around so they aren\'t over top one another. Some creators might even work for LL since they put their clothing or skin HUD right in the center of my screen. Yay, right? I have to move my camera to the side so it is difficult to see my new skin and it is so awesome. I love all of the confusion and end up logging out of SL out of blissful frustration. \r\n\r\nOkay, so other games... like SL... I won\'t mention names but they exist... have a much easier way to make outfits and looks. \r\n\r\nLL: Look, we still don\'t understand because we\'re not sure what a UX team is. \r\n\r\nFlower: say no more! I\'m happy to work for free (uhuh) and design this neat feature to save SL for you!\r\n\r\nThere are four parts to it. Are you ready?\r\n1) A new "outfits view" for our inventory that limits our inventory to the skins, clothing, horns or whatever we would like to try on *and* to the things that that we are currently wearing. \r\n\r\nThis hides all of the rest of the inventory so you don\'t end up losing your place in your inventory and have to find that HUD all over again.\r\n\r\nIt makes our inventory look small and neat and focused. That sounds like a good first step.\r\n\r\n2) An outfit folder that stores the things that *were* in your inventory view for that outfit so that you can make changes again in the future. There are a bunch of ways to sort this out but maybe something as simple as two sub folders:\r\n\r\noutfit/items <- all of the stuff you used to make this outfit (see step #1)\r\noutfit/wear <- the stuff you wear when you "wear" this outfit\r\n\r\nNot too bad so far: our outfit folder is simple, we won\'t lose that awesome skin or tattoo HUD in our messy inventory and never be able to find it.\r\n\r\n3) Fixing messy, scattered HUDS\r\nNow... where should creators put all of these HUDs anyway? I know the center of my screen is the best place for a HUD but maybe we try something different? Maybe new HUDs called "CHUDS" for Canonical HUDS or whatever term you LL people can form by ignoring your customers and using your local office vernacular...\r\n\r\na) A HUD would have standard limits in terms of size, layer and more (aka a CHUD)\r\nb) The UI would have HUD layers that match your skin and clothing layers. E.g. a skin HUD would go on a layer underneath your clothing HUD layer. \r\n\r\nOkay, I need to take some time to pat myself on the back for this one. 3-D HUD layering... how cool and intuitive is that?!?\r\n\r\nc) The outfit UI would make it possible to hide and show any HUD that is in the current HUD layer. So... you shoe HUD can\'t fight with your jacket HUD. \r\n\r\n4) This is the last part... I bet you can\'t wait to find out what it is! Gotta read below to find out!\r\n\r\nYou know that window with body feature sliders that pops up when you edit your shape? What if we gave that little feature some TLC and turned it into the "outfit experience"? What if... that window with the sliders is on the left side of the screen, you... your body with clothing is in right in the middle (sorry HUD creators!), the HUD window is second from the right and the inventory is all the way to the right. \r\n\r\nLL: idk what this means... please work for free for us and explain more.\r\n\r\n*sighs* \r\n\r\nImagine when you decide to make a new outfit/look... four windows appear on your screen:\r\n\r\n[body sliders] [avatar view] [HUD layer] [inventory]\r\n\r\nThe avatar view window would let you spin your avatar, change lighting, change camera angles and all of that fun stuff. I think I\'ve explained the other views already.\r\n\r\nLL: can you please break this up into separate feature requests so that we no longer understand the full context?\r\n\r\nFlower: no... please just close this feature request and ignore it.', 'ReOpened Count': 0.0, 'Severity': 'Unset', 'Target Viewer Version': 'viewer-development', 'Why is this feature important to you? How would it benefit the community?': '* It took like an hour to write up and it was boring to write up.... yeah\r\n* LL gets a free idea from Flower... that will be closed and then ignored anyway.\r\n* People can actually make outfits in SL without wanting to rock in an embryo position while crying for hours. [~grumpity.linden], I would like you to close this feature request and then ignore it. It would mean a lot to me.
