[BUG-230168] EEP Moon vanishes when it is within 45 degrees of the horizon. #7900

What just happened?

I had a moon visible on the horizon in my custom made EEP which was a static day. After a server update the moon vanished. I tracked the issue to the moon becoming more transparent the closer it is to the horizon.
This behavior does not reflect the real world where the moon sets behind the horizon just like the sun, especially in the late afternoon which is the setting I used in me EEP.

What were you doing when it happened?

nothing.
LL updated the server and broke it. (yeah I said it. you broke it. Waves to Dan)

What were you expecting to happen instead?

I expected the EEP file to appear as it was designed (and functioned for the last 6 months) with the fully opaque moon on the horizon as defined by the EEP file. If there is to be a fade of transparency based on position that should be a new setting that does not effect existing content. This change has made EEP less useful.

Other information

In the real world the moon is fully visible right to the horizon as it sets just like the sun. This server update begins to make the moon transparent once it is below 45 degrees of the horizon. The moon no longer sets behind mountains or moves to the horizon as it does in the real world.

My moon is a picture of Saturn that makes it look like my region is in orbit of Saturn!

There are several pictures of how it used to look and one picture of the same location with the moon missing.

Could it be that fading the sun as it moves towards the horizon was the intended effect and it got mistakenly applied to the moon too?

I have looked everywhere and can't find the moon, even under the couch and in the veggie crisper of the refrigerator - which was totally empty and unused like all good programmer's veggie crispers!

Darling.

Turning on Atmospheric Shaders makes the moon vanish!  Turning it off restores the moon.

Try it yourself in the region Quantum.

Thank you, Darling. This is a duplicate of BUG-229489.
