[BUG-230188] Avatar Shapes failing to load e.g. (Missing/corrupt shape in inventory) #7915

What just happened?

I have been selling shapes since 2017. This error started occurring since September 2020 and it is incredibly worrisome. I have had at least 5 shapes that are no longer retrievable with the following error message: "Failed to find body part named {wren's nest} Mayte Proportional for Catwa MajerSOFT in the database."  (after a recent crash, this also became the case for the eyebrows I was wearing).

HOWEVER, the shape can be copied and boxed and is not greyed out in inventory. It CAN be 'worn' from the Outfits folder but it does not actually appear inworld. It CANNOT be 'worn' from inventory and results in receiving error message.

This particular shape was created yesterday. Fine when I wore it today, but it was no longer accessible after a crash from a busy region. (I am not sure if the previous 4 shapes were also missing following a crash).

The biggest concern for me (as a shape seller) is that the shape remains in inventory, can be copied and boxed for sale.

I do not have Iolo System Mechanic Pro installed ( as suggested in BUG 224955) I am not able to go to the Testylvania region to pick up a shape nor am I running iCloud ( as suggested in BUG-9487 from 2015)

I have gone go Preferences and cleared Inventory cache, but the problem persists.

The problem initially occurred while using the latest Firestorm viewer, but is replicated in the SL viewer.

[ADDENDUM: as of this moment and after the last crash I created a new body shape and new hair body part. I was able to edit both, but at some point both 'failed' to be found. No crash was involved nor relogging. I created new body parts again and again they didn't 'stick'.  I copied a shape that does work to test and the copy also had a 'failed to find' message ...I followed all 4 parts of the instructions here:  [https://wiki.firestormviewer.org/failed_to_find_in_database]  deleted the shapes, then copied shapes that work and the copies eventually returned this failed message].  I eventually just made new shapes and hair from absolute scratch

What were you doing when it happened?

It happened subsequent to a crash this time. Not sure the previous 4 times if a crash was involved.

What were you expecting to happen instead?

the shape to be available. Or if missing from inventory to not be listed, copyable, or boxable.

Other information

This is incredibly serious to me and my reputation as a business in SL if I start selling shapes that I may not have realized were borked.

Hi WrenNoir,

May we please have a copy of all your logs from a viewer session when this issue happens?

Exit that session and before relaunching the viewer, zip up your viewer logs folder and attach it to this issue using More Actions -> Attach files. This page tells you where to find the logs folder: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-report-a-bug/ta-p/733545#Section_.3

Please press the Info Provided button when ready.

Thanks!

Hi Kylie,  I see the Firestorm 'dump' folder from Feb 6, 2021 when I crashed; however, when I open it is empty.

It just happened again a few minutes ago:  I crashed, then relogged normally. After being inworld for some time, I created a new shape by copying a different shape. I edited that new shape and saved it. After some time (no crashes), I received a message that the shape I am wearing is not found.

The 'dump' file folder for today is empty as well. Do you have any other recommendations of what I can do to give you the information you need?  I am attaching what I do have anyway.

Hi WrenNoir,

Indeed those are the Firestorm log files. Please reproduce this issue on the official Second Life viewer and provide those log files. Select all the files in the /logs/ folder and then compress them or "zip them up" into a single file. Please attach that file to this Jira.

Additionally, if the shape has become corrupted, it is likely unrecoverable and the easiest solution is to completely delete that shape from your inventory and replace it with a new one.

Thanks!

Hi Kylie, apologies. I've attached the SL logs which I should have also attached from the start.

Yes, of course, creating a new one seems to be the only solution. This issue is being mentioned as it has happened with worrisome frequency in the last 6 months and never prior in these 4 years I've been selling shapes. Additionally, I can work on the shape, copy and box it while it is corrupted.

Hi WrenNoir,

Please bear with me this is going to be a complicated reply. First, you will ultimately need to contact support because you do have inventory corruption. So regardless of the outcome of this bug report, please file a ticket at https://lindenlab.freshdesk.com/support/tickets/new and ask for a "Fix Inventory".

Second, there is a clear discrepancy between your Current Outfit Folder (COF) version that we believe is current, server side, versus that which the viewer is reporting. Some times this can be resolved by clearing your viewer cache. If that does not work, do you appear as a gas cloud to yourself or to others? If so you may also need to contact support and request they fix your COF.

What will help is more information when a corruption happens. You may have to create several new shapes and then relog to confirm it was broken. If you can reproduce the creation of such a bad shape (bodypart) and then send us all the viewer logs, it will help give us clues. As you have stated you do not have Iolo System Mechanic, but that does not mean some other software or hardware configuration isn't doing something similar.

Please press the Info Provided button when you update this issue.

Thanks!
