[BUG-231288] LetsEncrypt certificate failure also affecting inworld HTTPS:// media / video #8788

What just happened?

Video source sites using a LetsEncrypt certificate no longer seem to be able to display video inworld via libVLC. Previous to the certificate expiration issue broadcast video would display via media overlay on prims. Now they are just white. This has been tested in both the base Second Life viewer and in the current Firestorm, all in a windows environment. Wil the impending LSL fix also fix the media issue, or does libVLC need to be updated in the viewer builds?

What were you doing when it happened?

Attempting to watch a video stream using HTTPS:// transport.

What were you expecting to happen instead?

Expected to see/hear media stream. All we got was white prim.

Hi Rris,

So far we have been successful at playing video on Media on a Prim and in the viewer. For example Youtube videos work fine.

Will you please provide a few URLs that are failing to play back Media? This will help us determine if there is anything we can do to remedy the situation or not.

Please press the Info Provided button when you update this bug report.

Thanks!

Hi Kyle,

Alas, the sites that were failing to display video/audio went to certificates that don't rely on letsencrypt, thus restoring their functionality. So I don't have bad URLS to point you to. Still may want to investigate going to the latest version of libVLC, in the viewer build someday, but for now i guess you can close this ticket, as folks seem to of worked around the issue.

Thanks!

Hi Rris,

Thanks for the confirmation. While CEF handles most of our media playback and we recently updated it to CEFv91, I will file an internal issue to update LibVLC too.

Thanks!
