For QA: Issues appears to be realted not to object's size, but to repeat/scale setting of a texture/material. It's just easier to notiece on larger objects.
Please test original scenario and potentially look for edge cases or scenarios where low scale textures stay at full quality on basic cube despite distance and larger scale textures lose quality on a similar cube.
Passed QA. Verified on the Second Life Release 7.1.7.8993168213 (64bit) on Win10/OSX in the scope of secondlife/iqa#226.
Have a large prim like a landmass object.
When viewed from one side it renders the full resolution texture.
When the camera is rotated slightly, the texture goes low res no matter how close I look at it. Turning the camera a few degrees back makes it high res again.
