In today's rapidly evolving market climate, information and communication technology developments are taking place at a very rapid rate. As a result, companies are under intense pressure to adapt rapidly, be competitive, and find new opportunities. The amount of data collected by organizations today is also increasing at an exponential rate and involves both organized and new forms of large and real-time data across a wide range of industries, such as streaming, geo-spatial, social media, or data generated by sensors. This article will briefly explain business analytics and discuss how world-class companies are embracing business analytics and the technology environments that make it relatively simple and inexpensive, and the resulting competitive advantages they have gained.
