Can't get value from refs on the ranks screen

Ok, I fixed it -- can't believe I actually fixed it -- I thought my brain was going to ooze out of my ears lol. Kieran I didn't do anything re: the delete -- how attached are you to this one? Is it r. important -- if it isn't I can move on to other issues - it's somewhat lengthy to implement and I think the way this thing works right now is workable. Let me know.
