Hi there,
i have forked this repository and made some improvements to make it work for our plugin. I would be happy to open a PR to this repository, if there is interest. These are my current changes: https://github.com/RideAmigosCorp/salesforce-marketing-cloud/pull/1
It would be a breaking change and requires a little more additional setup for android, but allows for greater flexibility.
