Actually, I've used multiple commodities in single accounts all over the place for years, as I prefer the simplicity and the correspondence to institutional statements. I think of Martin's "one commodity per account" as a special case of the general case.
I built my asset allocation analyzer around this general case: https://github.com/redstreet/beancount_asset_allocation. I'd be happy to contribute this to fava-classy-portfolio once I get it up and running :).
Generally don't expect one to ever do this, but beancount technically allows for it.
