Would it be possible to not use GA, and respect user privacy?
Currently, Google Analytics, Google Fonts, Youtube embeds, Twitter Lists, Google Calendars etc are loaded by default (Opt Out) which is against European laws. These have to be Opt-In. We have already also some new Court judgements "Schrems II" in Austria and now also France (https://noyb.eu/en/update-cnil-decides-eu-us-data-transfer-google-analyt...) which reads, that Google analytics is illegal to use in Europe!
From Make Drupal.org GDPR compliant.
Perhaps something like this could serve as an alternative? Follow Your Website Analytics With Umami.
Thanks, I'll check out Umami
Thanks, though since I posted, I realized that the example is running it on Heroku, which adds some extra work ... But it would be nice to eventually use analytics, which respects user privacy.
This looks like the issue to follow: https://github.com/orgs/community/discussions/31474
Perhaps https://www.goatcounter.com/ could be considered?
Easy web analytics. No tracking of personal data
GoatCounter is an open source web analytics platform available as a free donation-supported hosted service or self-hosted app. It aims to offer easy to use and meaningful privacy-friendly web analytics as an alternative to Google Analytics or Matomo.
It's very easy to set up. Just create an account, and insert some JavaScript at the bottom of the pages.
For discussion and feedback about it:
I agree. An alternative to GA is preferrable.
Also, I just discovered this site today. It's pretty handy.
About 3 weeks ago I configured the google analytics with this commit: https://github.com/selwynpolit/d9book/commit/d93ca0ed6f17f2c889c0d707b615dcb8bb321566
Not sure why I see no results from google:

My phone occasionally pops up messages about lots of users accessing the site. Any analytics gurus out there have any ideas?
