Add support for subscription widget in new Marketing Campaigns tool #16

siruguri commented 8 years ago

For new users, it would be helpful to know where to get the token that identifies the widget, without knowing how the previous embed code used to work.

mribble commented 8 years ago

Hopefully you add this kind of service since that would help make your campaign offering much more compelling.

This seems pretty critically for your campaign service, but I understand for transnational emails, which I suspect is your core business, this isn't going to matter since everyone is writing code already. While I could write and host the php, I just don't have time for that right now so I'll look for another service.

colinbrislawn commented 8 years ago

I would also like to have an 'official' email sign-up method from Sendgrid itself. Looking forward to trying this functionality and @brandonmwest, I'm willing to test.

+1 desperately need an official method for doing this

chicofilho commented 8 years ago

It should definitely be in the New Marketing Campaign tool. I just signed up for Sendgrid today because of this functionality! It is crutial for static websites

ElegantSudo commented 8 years ago

For every person writing on this issue about wanting this feature on Sendgrid, there's likely a hundred more who aren't.

And every one of those people represents a company of a lot more people, who would send emails to a lot more people.

I think it's really in your best interest to do this, Sendgrid.

headerbidding commented 8 years ago

I agree 100%! Sendgrid, are you listening???

I am really surprised not to see this some way to easily add a sign up form to a site (ie code samples) then integrate with the user lists, since email signs ups from visitors are a very common feature.

Need this as we evaluate the product. The marketing creation stage is actually very effective since you can do most tasks in one page.

NJovan commented 7 years ago

We are currently using GetResponse and would migrate to SendGrid right away if there was a subscription widget. Without one for our website, it's simply not feasible. Please support a subscription widget for Marketing Campaigns in SendGrid.

+1 Really don't get why this is not available...

@tonyblank this is the issue we were discussing the other day at the Techstars' office (Sendgrid's I should say). I wished this hadn't been an issue for such a long time. My NPS of Sendgrid is about 5 partly because issues like this take such a long time to get fixed (and because the builder of the Marketing campaigns is awful too - compared to Mailchimp's).

tcatlas commented 7 years ago

+1 on subscription widget update for Marketing Campaigns. Not sure how this is even something your users should ask for, and not implemented from the start...

colinbrislawn commented 7 years ago

Not sure how this is even something your users should ask for, and not implemented from the start...

Maybe they are not trying to serve small, static, sites that would want a winget. Maybe they want to serve larger sites that already have a process for adding users.

odower commented 7 years ago

They don't care about this one. Not sure how much they really care about contact management either. The Marketing features in general are not where they should be. Sucks.

tylerbrostrom commented 7 years ago

Also had to expose an API key. Permissions are good - but could be more granular to be honest.

I'd be wary of exposing an API key on the client. From what I can tell, it's not possible to grant write only access to the Contacts API (which is what you'd want to do in building a subscription widget) without excluding access to the Campaigns and Sender Identities API.

In short, there's no secure, front-end-only solution for a simple "subscribe" form. Let's hope that changes.

@brandonmwest A year later and no solution for this? This is the second major problem we've run into with SendGrid. Really disappointing and (apparently) impossible for us to use at this time.

+1 Hey @brandonmwest I can only repeat what all the other guys said in this thread --> We are really willing to use sendgrid more intensely, but with this simple "add a user" feature missing, I guess we'll have to go with e.g. Mailchimp for the majority of use cases. Sadly, this is really disappointing. I hope, you'll manage to add this soon. But seeing how old this thread is and that all your responses are kinda vague, my hope is quite limited... Cheers! Tim

dmihal commented 7 years ago

Can't believe that Sendgrid isn't making this feature a priority. Looks like I'm moving on to Mailchimp...

headerbidding commented 7 years ago

Has anyone moved to MailChimp yet? Is it an easy migration?

scornflake commented 7 years ago

+1. I need this as well.

TOuhrouche commented 7 years ago

Just signed up but definitely going back to Mailchimp as there are no subscription forms :(

scornflake commented 7 years ago

The odd thing is (and I've no idea why SG havn't chimed in here) is that there sort of IS a subscription management for... But not ones you can create via their web interface. If you send yourself a transactional message containing the template tag <%asm_preferences_raw_url%>, you'll end up getting a link to a nice little subscription page... pity this appears to be completely buried in their docs...

I know this isn't the same a reusable widget with parameters, but it still might be of use to some people.

I would like to point out that there is a turn-key solution (deploy to heroku) available via https://github.com/devchas/sendgrid_subscription_widget, along with an article on sendgrid's blog by the author.

Not as simple as the other solutions available, but if you're already stuck in the sendgrid system, you should be able to get up and running in 15 minutes.

colinbrislawn commented 7 years ago

Has anyone moved to MailChimp yet? Is it an easy migration?

@headerbidding Yeah, I moved 6 months ago it it went really well.

leaderint commented 7 years ago

Here is a drop in widget for marketing campaigns that you can add to any website: https://leaderinternet.com/products/sendgrid-widget

Sendgrid wouldn't build it so we did. Problem solved.

martygribbin commented 7 years ago

Works Perfectly. Now I don't have to worry about migrating to MailChimp. Thanks!

lolojones commented 7 years ago

@brandonmwest is this still on the list? We've been waiting over a year... I'm just curious if there is anything we can do to help? Thanks!

Hey, everyone! I am the Developer Experience Product Manager at SendGrid. I receive every post that happens on this thread (both from Github, friends, and my coworkers...). I really do appreciate the information, +1s, thumbs, and feedback on this thread. Please keep it coming.

I am sorry that this thread has gone unresolved for such a long time. We have/are creating multiple ways for a subscription widget to be added to your site so that you have options. We hope that this helps, please do respond with thoughts and suggestions as everything we do is based on customer feedback. I will personally pass along any information to the appropriate team that doesn't specifically pertain to my products at SendGrid.

Here are a couple of the current options:

We are currently writing and posting proposals to our Library repos that will discuss what it a widget in our libraries would need to look like. As the proposals are completed, I will update this thread with links

If you are up for chatting with me personally about what you would like to see from our library implementation(s) of a widget, please grab a time on my calendar https://calendly.com/matt-bernier/subscription-widget-in-libs times are available from 9am MT -4pm MT, Oct 2-Oct 31.

headerbidding commented 7 years ago

Hi Matt,

All I need is a widget to capture the email address.

No more functionality needed than the legacy widget.

Such a widget has been promised by Sendgrid over one year ago.

Hi Matt, I second Hubert here. We don't need anything fancy. Something à la MailChimp will be far enough :) Can you give us an ETA on this please?

Regards, Tahar

Hi @mbernier. This is what a great number of people on this list is asking for: https://kb.mailchimp.com/lists/signup-forms/add-a-signup-form-to-your-website

Hope that's helpful!
