Sorry I thought I could have a crack at this. The patch I provided does not pass all tests and there are some flaws I can't work out. Unicode is not my thing!

Hopefully it helps in some way.

Could you please document on the frontpage readme that Python3 currently isn't supported, but that you're open to adding support for it? Hopefully that'll save someone else the 10 minutes it cost me to create a venv, and hunting down the cause of the error...
