[RFC] [Ongoing] Communications Channel for Development?

Selecting a suitable avenue for coordinating development of Endless Dream that's transparent to the community

Possible Solutions

    • Commonly used tool
    • Captures a large part of the audience that will be using Endless Dream
  • Cons
    • Requires an account to read
    • Not indexed by web scrapers
• Zulip
  • Pros
    • Relatively simple interface
    • The public can view and search without an account
    • Provides features like threading
  • Cons
    • Likely unfamiliar to most people
    • Yet another account
• Github discussions
  • Pros
    • Built right into github itself, easy to find for those just coming to download the latest version
    • Can reference issues/PRs directly
    • publicly viewable
  • Cons
    • Not the best interface
    • Lacks some features compared to the alternatives

Contributing

Please contribute any additional options or thoughts and I'll update this post incorporating them. This issue has no deadline. The chosen solution may not be permanent as needs change over time.

GH discussions should do the job good enough as it requires the least amount of Extra Commitment out of all listed options

I think GitHub itself would be the best solution. Personally, I don't like having to use any tools to do that, having the repo and communication disconnected is plain uncomfortable.

I think GitHub Discussions would be the best go here, indexable, queryable etc.

Some form of synchronous communication would be convenient but I think by offering a Discord it would disincentivize using the GitHub discussions at all. Something like IRC would work better since it's directly focused on talking "now" but it's not convenient at all for anybody involved...
