@Lilit - I think this implementation may have done too much.

I wish us to be able to configure whether the app uses an in-browser database or a server-based one.

@lilitkarapetyan - there's a code review issue on this PR. There's also the issue where I want the local storage to be configurable - to either run in-browser or via backend server.

@lilitkarapetyan - I think we agreed to restart this PR once the Monster Demo PR was merged.

I've just done that - so I'd like you to have another go at making Serge configurable, so that it will normally run from a backend, but the demo instance will run with an in-browser database.
