Feature Suggestion: Multiple active profiles #8

Hi,

First off, thanks for your excellent extension, it's very useful!

I've a feature suggestion to make the profiles feature even better. Here's the use case: I have multiple profiles for work and home, one for linux and one for windows, ideally I'd be able to enable multiple profiles at the same time so that I can have 'work' and 'linux' active.

Cheers

This feature is already supported. You can create profiles and selectively enable/disable plugins based on profile.

IMO that's obviously not what Will is describing (if the suggestion was selectively enabling/disabling extensions, he'd already do that).

Let's say you create one profile, "Work", and it contains the extensions "Proxy Switcher" and "Lastpass".

Then you create another profile, "Ads", and it contains "Ublock Origin" and "Privacy Badger".

Instead of being able to toggle "Ads" off/on and only have Ublock and PB be disabled, EVERYTHING not in the profile gets enabled/disabled. That's mean while Ads is active, both Proxy Switcher and Lastpass get turned off.

And vice versa for "Work".

With the current system, every possible extension you'd like to have active when a profile is on has to be included in the profile. It's extra work.

I dig Extensity, but I wouldn't mind this functionality too.

@cecoates This will be partially supported with the addition of "Always On" profiles (a special list of extensions that will always be enabled and don't need to be included on every specific list).

While it just mitigates the problem and doesn't really addresses the exact issue you're describing, I'm usually not inclined to include too many "advanced" features that may result in confusion for the average user.

Would love to see this feature supported, please!
