"error loading file" from eog #51

I open a photo (currently stored under "/tmp/some dir") in eog, right click, select "open with" -> "darktable" to edit the photo.

I expect to be able to start working on the photo.

What I observe is the "error loading file" error message and I the image does not open. This is repeatable on a fresh 20.04 installation with darktable 4.0.1 installed from a snap.

I've been avoiding snaps like the plague so I've not been following what's going on and now I get the impression that this has nothing to do with darktable, but is in fact a "feature" of snaps. Beats me how anyone thought a deployment system with such consequences could even be considered for general use, but this issue can probably be safely closed as unrelated to darktable.
