Add Electron to Supported Environments #8

Closed reconbot closed 2 years ago

📚 Documentation

We should add electron to supported environments page. It's a major consumer of serialport. Likewise it probably needs an instaliation instructions revamp

Hi @reconbot,

while this issue is quite old, I suspect it's probably still very true.

I was thinking of updating the documentation with a few changes/clarifications to bring it up to date for electron:

Would you like me to try to draft something for review? Given the age of this I'm also happy to try to help in other areas which are higher priority if I can

Cheers

Gaz

ps - am I right to think that the experimental rust bindings are our best bet to switch to NAPI and address some of the workarounds mentioned above?

reconbot commented 3 years ago

I'd love the help, I don't know much about electron.

As for rust, the rust serialport project isn't being maintained, so I'm working on that, and once we have someone in place I can start working on our version again.

Unless someone else wants to have a go, I would happily support others experiments.

I've popped electon out to it's own page, I'm thinking it can give some example code and link out to the example project (which needs to be updated for v10). I've been able to simplify the installation instructions because of the a-api work 👍
