Integration of vassals

For formations like superstates, Balkan unification, the FBU*, etc., smaller nations are immediately annexed. Would it be preferable to use something like the vanilla doctrine of lapse, where those nations are first made vassals, then annexed after time/conditions are met? It seems more realistic to me, especially as a way to emulate centralization. This would also allow the player to reject outright annexation if they so choose, and allow cultural autonomy.

To prevent exploits and infamy cheats, it could be triggered only on vassals with a certain flag, which is removed upon annexation.

*Of course, there could be a problem with doing this to GPs, but unlanded nations could be released and vassalized upon formation of the FBU. This would also provide a downside if those people have a wave of nationalism and decide not to join the FBU, as well as a challenge that makes the FBU less OP. Currently, it seems a little too problem-free.

Yes, these are good ideas. However regarding the integration of vassals, if I'm not mistaken, a similar suggestion was also raised in the NWO thread which cited the difficulty in implementing this as the inability to mark the vassal as being under a specific nation to allow for timing.

But if the doctrine of lapse system works then a system based on it should be able to work as well with necessary conditions being centralisation in the superstate and non nationalist or traditionalist ruling parties in the vassal and a base mtth of say 25 years but lower if the vassal has a liberal party, progressive, socialist or big tent one. Rejection of annexation would then cause the removal of the flag so it will remain on the path of cultural autonomy. However another flag will be added in such a case so as to enable a decision for integration when a liberal party comes into power.

I think it would be better to treat the FBU as a non superstate as it is essentially just a union between 2 nations, France and the UK with a empire of colonies that want to be independent unlike a superstate that consist of parties willing to be part of it like the EU. I think a means to make the FBU more challenging would be to release major colonies as vassals so while it would still be easier to hold on to smaller colonies as the FBU, it is still difficult to hold on to major colonies.

Concerning the FBU - what about autonomous regions? Say it is a mainland union committed to decolonizing, it could release as vassal Scotland/Wales/Brittany/Corsica etc, adding an extra dimension of difficulty if those countries get nationalists and decide they prefer independence to joining the union. It would be a sort of race against time trying to centralize to trigger the integration events faster before those nations have a chance to do so - or it could be enforced militarily.

This is certainly a good addition to the current FBU setup. If I have the time, I will try to add it in or you could also add it in as well if you have the time. As this will be of a lower priority than the other issues owing to the rarity of the FBU in game.

Another FBU suggestion: if created, the Francophonie nations could also be allowed entrance into the commonwealth.

Tweaked the FBU creation event to automatically transfer all puppets of France to the FBU.

The spherelings of France will also be transferred to the FBU allowing them to join the commonwealth.
