Why is EhViewer deprecated?

Hi! I have a question about your seven332/EhViewer repository.

Sorry for posting this here, I couldn't find any contact information, so I am opening this issue instead. You have deprecated and archived the EhViewer application on 9 Aug 2019. Around that time exh*ntai was having legal problems and had to temporarily shut down.

If you didn't know, both e-h*ntai and exh*ntai are currently up and running again.

I, and at least 5000 other users (people who gave the repository a ★) like your EhViewer application very much. Could you give us an update about why is it [DEPRECATED] or maybe unarchive it?

Sorry, I'm not the author of this app，I'm just one of the ehviewer's users.But i can tell you that the ehviewer doesn't shutdown or be deprecated,the author is keeping up to maintain the app.It's a fake website['http://www.ehviewer.com/']  that's marked as deprecated.So you can just download the ehviewer on 'https://github.com/seven332/EhViewer/releases'.The latest version of ehviewer is 1.7.3,enjoy it!

@ulysses497 That doesn't seem correct to me. The repository you linked is "archived by the owner. It is now read-only" and the latest 1.7.3 update was released way back in July.

I know, that the app still works, I am just sad that it's not being updated and may be broken at any time. For example, exh*ntai is apparently slowly deprecating some of the non-HTTPS protocols they had and I don't know, if EhViewer uses them and if it will break, when they finally get disabled.

@ulysses497 dude. Thanks for your comments, but that's not the problem.

1) I know, that the app currently works. I know, how to download and install it. 2) The github repository is frozen. The github repository is archived. The github repository is read-only. 3) No new updates since July, after 1.7.3 were released. There will be no future updates unless seven332 decides to unarchive the repository and continue updating it. 4) I've read on the e-h*ntai forums, that there will be some changes to the services, that might break EhViewer in the future.

@NoroHime Well, there is a lot of forks to choose from and they don't seem even remotely official. The one you linked for example doesn't install on my device with an "application not installed" error. Also, I don't really speak Chinese so trying to figure out, which forks provide actual updates and which forks are just stub/translation forks is a pain.

When the comments stopped loading in version 1.7.3, I thought that EhViewer is done for. Luckily, I was able to find a newer 1.7.6 version apk (supposedly also by the original author, Hippo Seven @seven332) in the official (i think?) telegram chat. And the comments work in that version. The update is dated 20/10/2020, so it's either made by somebody, who is pretending to be the author, or the author keeps EhViewer github page archived for some reason, even tho he is making updates for it and distributing them through other channels. Either way, the lack of closure here is really annoying.

@RubinRomantic The apk signature is the only reason of installation failure. It's almost impossible to forge, so the update in tg chat is very likely to be done by the author.

As for NekoInverter's fork with a different signature, you have to uninstall seven332's version before you can install it. With root permission and some proper backup tool you may want to back up and restore the App's data.

i filtered high stars fork, you can also see exzhawk's https://github.com/exzhawk/EhViewer , they are all the feature updates, included fixes "no comment ",anyway if someday seven332 open the ehviewer project again, all forks can merge they branch
