When i import any size image into my wordpress site's media library, the thumbnail size is automatically cropped in a bad way (both the top, and the sides of the image). going into Post Thumbnail editor and saving my changes is not making any difference to the way the thumbnail ends up being cropped, and often won't even let me crop it the way i'd like to. HELP!!!!

can you give me some more information? does PTE ever work? does it show the correctly cropped thumbs for stage 2 and then not save them correctly? Does it fail from the get go? Can you post the log (from stage 3)?

Hi sorry for delay. i usually drag a regular photo from my desktop to the media library after i've clicked on "insert photo" in a particular post. usually, the photo appears cropped in a bad way as soon as it shows up in the window where you're supposed to make adjustments to the photo before inserting it into the post. when i try to initiate my own crops, it does not do it, or if it does, the thumbnail is never cropped correctly, even when i have "apply changes to thumbnail" checked. in fact, the "save" button is usually grayed out. this is so frustrating!! do you have a more simple protocol for getting the thumbnails the way you want them? thanks Kelly

After you've uploaded your picture next to the crop window (or in the media gallery) there should be a link to open the "Post Thumbnail Editor". Does this work?

You should be at an interface that looks like this...

Hi- The thumbnail editor only appears once i've opened the 2nd of the editing windows. yesterday i tried recropping an import with only the "thumbnail" picture checked, and it was forcing a square crop even though the original photo wasn't a square.
thanks

When the aspect ratio is forced, it's based on the thumbnail size rather than the original pictures size. For the "thumbnail" thumbnail, you can disable the square by unchecking the crop option under Settings --> Media.
