Description

The San Francisco Housing Action Committee stopped by hack night and had some requests for help. They have an important program about housing density, yet there are some unanswered questions they have.

Questions

  1. They want help programmatically finding zero and one story buildings.
  2. For all developments in the last decade find what used to exist on the site - to prove that demolition of residential is very rare.
  3. Census data by neighborhood maps

Finding One and Two Story Buildings

Currently we use assessors tax data to find buildings with really small sq footage relative to what could get built by zoning.

Make a map that makes this super easy. Household size and income and age

Regarding one and two story buildings and zoning, the best data is from SF Planning.

SF Plannings Property Assessment reports include the number of units and stories in a building.

You can explore the data here: http://propertymap.sfplanning.org/?dept=planning

You can download the raw data here, including Building Footprints and Census data: http://propertymap.sfplanning.org/maphelp.html

This report also includes some insights regarding density and zoning: http://openscopestudio.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/1405-2015-07-01-ADU-Handbook-DRAFT.pdf

Is this project still open or in need of help? I'm happy to jump in somewhere I could lend a hand.
