We're switching over from those two columns in the spreadsheet, to a civic.json file on each project. A guide for Brigades will be coming soon, but I wanted to do it manually for CfSF first.
Its all in support of making http://www.codeforamerica.org/brigade/projects a useful tool.
Gotcha. I remember hearing about the civic.json
file from @hackajesse but hadn't dug into it much yet.
Side question: If we as a brigade need to store additional info in that civic.json
file that isn't needed by the CfA api, can we do that without breaking anything? Does the api discard any info it doesn't need?
Exactly. I just tried it out at https://github.com/sfbrigade/project-ideas/blob/master/civic.json.
We'll soon add a link to the civic.json file in the cfapi, so you'll have a programmatic way to get that extra data.
Sweet. Thanks a million @ondrae. This is going to help out the projects so much!
@therebelrobot this is big enough to merit informing Larry... ;)

Hi! Merge this PR to add a civic.json file to your project. This little bit of metadata will make your project easier to find with Code for America's project search by adding tags and status. You can read more about what the status means here. If you have questions about any of this just ping me, @ondrae. :raised_hands:
