Combo of PR #36 and #37 and adding Share by Email button #38

This PR is resolving merge conflicts and some additional code cleanup as I had done significant changes in PR #36 and PR #37 did not contain those updates.

36 and #37 can be closed if this one is merged

@bhuber2010 please check on branch conflicts. May be related to @supertask pull request pulled in to master tonight. If no conflicts you may be able to complete the merge yourself.
