Currently, we are getting the session ID from the browser cookies. Getting it from the cookies could cause problems in the future as:

you will be trying to use cookies which can be cleared any time also if salesforce decides to change its cookie structure, all apps will fail

Correct way would be to use the JS with OAuth for authenticating with SF

This could be considered as an enhancement for the initial release and would be fixed in the later releases
