species described as variety are made invalid #44

Not sure how many cases are concerned and whether this is perhaps dependent on the year of description. Found and fixed a few while fixing [GENUS NOT SPECIFIED] cases corresponding to subsequent citations.

In in case of nominate subspecies also the species need to be revalidated.

Serious problem. Requires method to track down all cases.

Did you get that spreadsheet by browsing Google Drive or you found it in some issue? Context would be nice so I can retrieve the scripts I used to refresh that list (if needed).

I found it by browsing spreadsheets in Google Drive. There is another list for all species files.

The list seems to cover almost all* cases. Currently there remain around 180 names that need to be revalidated**, including some infratribes. In the list I will paint the ones that are fixed in green.

*) not in the list: Pholidoptera pustulipes jailensis (Miram, 1927)

**) remove status excluded: infrasubspecific / select valid / remove valid, to get to valid by default
