Ctrl + "F" search option #153

Letting users know that they can use the Ctrl + "f" search option to search within ms Features.

Some of the ms features have an entry for every manuscript - eg. Binding. There is no searchline for these features, but the Ctrl + "f" option is an effective way to drill down to some of the distinctions we have been making using standardized vocabulary. For all users, knowing about this option makes it much easier to access and categorize the depth of information in the database.

When the user arrives at the Manuscript Features browse page, there is a brief description: Bibliographical, decorative, organizational, or user-related features of a manuscript. This could be followed by the information: Individual features pages can be searched using "Ctrl + f" (or whatever the standard way is to indicate this function).

Many users will be familiar with this option. However, some may not be, and using it adds significant functionality to the features section of the database.

No other examples, but the option already exists on the database - this is simply a request to mention it at a strategic point.

Hi @schellenb : Since the Ctrl+F function is something that could be applicable to a number of categories and pages without search lines (and even for the pages where this is a search line but you're looking for a particular thing on that page), I wonder if it'd be more efficient to have a "Tips for Browsing the Database" About page. That page could could include things like Ctrl+F as well as other information about how best to navigate across the site.

That would have the advantage of being controlled completely by you and your team, and you could add whatever text you'd like to that page, as well as being consistent information across the site; once the "Tips for Browsing" page is made, we could link to it from every Browse page.

Ok, that does make sense in terms of there being a number of pages where this would be helpful. When I was playing around with this a couple of weeks ago I found a number of instances where it didn't work, but now of course I can't find those. I will start a "Tips for Browsing" page and will consult with Angela and Daniel, but may need further suggestions at some point.

Hi Betty. This isn't a complete solution, but you can now search without putting anything at all in the search box. So you can click the filter checkbox and do a search and see everything that has been digitized.

Ok, Michael, that helps. Thank-you. Betty.
