[Background] On 11-Nov 2017 I downloaded a sample from IPUMS-NHIS. It contains some variables that might be useful to some preliminary analysis on obesity. The file currently lives in google_drive/obesity/raw_data/nhis/ipums

[Goal]

Load file to google_drive/obesity/derived/nhis/ipums
Do some preliminary analysis with the variables available

Update: the IPUMS sample is now currently loaded to the derived directory in google drive.

Some preliminary results on BMI, obesity and overweight rates for young adults between 18 and 25 years of age.

White-black gap in obesity rate The gap has widened since 1985
Obesity rate by region and sex There seem to be no increasing gap between south and other regions in the US or between men and women

Other plots for BMI and overweight rates (for both young adults and kids) can be found at analysis/Trends_in_obesity/output.
