If I try to submit an URL that is already submitted, it would be great if Shaarli would just edit it
That's already Shaarli's behaviour.
There are cases where it is perfectly valid to submit the same URL with in multiple instances
An easy trick is to add an anchor to your URL if you want to create a new shaare from the same URL.

Sorry I have not come back. I found out, that the URL I used tested this did not get edited, while others did get edited. They are all from a delicious import and I would like to dig more into the details when I get more time. If I try to submit an URL that is already submitted, it would be great if Shaarli would just edit it, or at least warn me (with an option to edit). There are cases where it is perfectly valid to submit the same URL with in multiple instances, so a view like the following would be great:
Note: This URL already exists: [edit] url title [edit] url title [edit] url title
