Dug into this a bit further. It appears that ramdisk.img
now contains two gzips, so the patch process currently just calls gzip
which ignores everything after the first EOF and only includes the first gzip file in the rebuilt image. Here's how to work around this and get the emulator to boot:

in a hex editor and search for 00 1F 8B
. Cut/paste everything up to and including the 00
into file1.gz
. Cut/paste everything starting at the 1F 8B
into file2.gz
.ramdisk.img
from MagiskOnEmulator, run cat file2.gz >> ramdisk.img
to add the second gzip and complete the image file.Unfortunately at this point, the Magisk Manager now doesn't detect that Magisk is installed. I tried building newer magisk binaries & manager app into magisk_emu.zip

Yes and with this 751f14299c059e0076b1183916df8550eea7f68a commit the issue of ramdisk in R should be fixed, sorry for late response but my emulator (canary) stopped working these days, and I end up with re-installing the Windows .. :(
by curiosity what problem did you have with the emulator, because i also experience crashes upon start up on canary. This occured when i opened android studio, then avd manager. The process studio64.exe remained hanged and i had to kill it in task manager before launching it again. My workaround was to create a shortcut to the avd itself skipping opening android studio when starting the avd. Shortcut's target was set to: %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Android\Sdk\emulator\emulator.exe -avd
