Re-draw MonoDevelop icons #29

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
MonoDevelop icons should follow the freedesktop.org standards and use the
tango guidelines. By now, a lot of icons in MonoDevelop have wrong
licensing issues and they should be replaced by original gpl icons.

Excellent idea!

MonoDevelop icons need to be licensed more freely than GPL, as we aim to go
LGPL in
the future. I suggest MIT/X11. They should certainly follow Tango guidelines.

A list of missing/needed icons is here: http://monodevelop.com/Missing_Icons.
If the
contestant completes any of these to our satisfaction, they will certainly be
included in the upcoming 1.0 release.

We will need SVN source files and png bitmaps for each of the required sizes.
I'll
update this in a day or two with the required license, the number of icons that
need
to be completed, and the timescale (I need to discuss these). Please hop onto
GIMPNet
IRC channel #monodevelop if you'd like to discuss this -- my nick is mhutch.

Deliverable: 10 icons.
Timescale: 5 days.

If anyone else wants to take some icons, post a comment and we'll fork a task
for you.

Hello again, M. Hutchinson. :)

I did the following 10 icons, according to the "Missing Icons" page:

- element-class
- element-field
- element-method
- element-namespace

- pad-task-list
- pad-widget-tree

- project
- project-add

- visibility-protected
- visibility-private

All icons include the 16x16 and 22x22 sizes. Project and project-add comes also
with
32x32 and scalable versions.

The attached file contains both png bitmap and svg source.

What do you think? Thank you! :)

Looking good! I'll try them out tomorrow.

However, I'm not sure about the widget tree one. Can you explain it?

Hello again!

Thank you a lot, M. Hutchinson!

About the widget tree, I tried to draw an icon that indicates the "selection of
a
widget". I'm not sure if the metaphor represents well the propose of the pad,
but I
think it combines with the function of it. Anyway, if you don't like it, I can
put my
abstract creativity to work and try something different :D.

:)

Well, the main thing about the widget tree is that it shown the hierarchical
tree
structure... your icon made me think of a toolbox (though it's not *quite*
right for
that).

Oh, looks like Lluis implemented project and new-project. However, the list of
missing icons hadn't been updated and yours have more sizes and svgs, so I'll
accpet
them anyway.

Aloha :)

I created a new version of tab-widget-tree. Now I think the metaphor
corresponds very
well with the the pad function :).

Thank you :D

Actually, though it looks good, I think that'd might make a good property grid
icon :P

Maybe if you shift the lower two items to the right it will give the impression
of a
hierarchy?

Oh, yes. Well done, fast work!

Approved, and I'll commit next week. I may need to shuffle things to get the
"modifiers" working rather than the combined style we have right now
(property-protected etc).

Go and draw up your list of icons so I can fork you another issue :) I'd suggest
starting by completing the visibility and element sets.

BTW, would you be interested in an issue to research and plan a Tango
Development
Tools icon theme? (Ask other IDE authors what they need, evaluate IDEs and
other GUI
development tools, draw up a list etc)

I'll probably create the issue anyway, because it would be a good thing to have.
