Localize MonoDevelop to Chinese #33

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
MonoDevelop is an IDE for writing desktop applications for GNOME.

We are looking for localizing MonoDevelop on a number of languages,
starting with the latest version.

MonoDevelop uses the standard GetText framework for translating applications.

This task is to translate MonoDevelop to Chinese.

We need some action on this, or we will have to re-open in per the contest
rules so
that someone else can have a chance.

Looking at the .po files, there is already a complete chinese translation
dating
back from 2006.

The PO file in SVN has not been updated in many months... current status for
zh_CN is
880 translated messages, 860 fuzzy translations, 805 untranslated messages.

Fuzzy == machine-guessed, based on existing translations, so those all need to
be fixed.

Take a look at Issue 8 for info. I've attached the updated po file so you don't
have
to worry about re-building it from svn.

Hi, just checked it out today and realized that there are quite a lot of
untranslated strings. It might take some time... with christmas and everything.
I'll
be able to complete about 50 strings a day, I guess.

Status update:
There are currently 1248 trasnlated, 600 fuzzy and 698 not translated.

Question:
I've used mostly non-chinese punctuation, though I've just realized the
previous
translator used mostly chinese punctuation (which looks ugly in GUIs)... Which
one
should I stick to?

Whichever you think is best, as long as it's consistent throughout the
translation.

Due to some other commitments, I am unable to finish the whole task. I've
uploaded
what I've done.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. Well, if you have time again and no-one else has
claimed
it by then, you're welcome to reclaim it.

GHOP ended in 2008, and was superseded by Google Code-In, but Mono is not
participating in Code-In this year. If you're interested in contributing to
MonoDevelop independently of Google's student programs, please email the
MonoDevelop mailing list.
