we do something similar with soscleaner's keyword obfuscation. https://soscleaner.readthedocs.io/en/latest/

Thanks @jduncan-rva for getting in touch! I have used soscleaner before, I was under the impression that it only supported sosreports though.

Can I aim soscleaner at a generic directory, and it will perform keyword obfuscation across all file contents and file/path-names?

you certainly can. it'll accept any directory or list of text fields. it's in the docs, but not called out very well (my fault). https://soscleaner.readthedocs.io/en/latest/ The -f option lets you specify files.
