What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Run vi on the terminal
2. all input works except 'Esc' - so can't leave input mode.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
issue and ESC when I hit Esc

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Android 2.1 - from Market on 20100702

How can you type Escape using stock android? Android keyboard doesn't have 
Escape key. Try typing F1 instead - it sends trackball press event and should 
probably work in terminal as escape key.
