In many cases, we don't need to rely on a ShapePath to precisely identity references in a virtual hierarchy. Adding an option for "viaPredicate" will provide a lighter option to ShapePaths that will be perfectly adequate for many use cases. (Thanks to @elf-pavlik for the suggestion).
