I downloaded just the EXE and got an error message. After some head scratching 
I realised I needed to download the MSI file as well.

Some applications come as either an EXE or an MSI, so I thought one or the 
other was needed, not both.

Hi.  You shouldn't need to download both.  What error was you seeing?

I downloaded the EXE. When I executed that it said it had to install the .net 
3.5sp1 client platform, which is weird as I already have the full 3.5sp1 
environment installed.

After the .net installation completed it reported it could not find the MSI 
file.

I manually downloaded the MSI and installed that, which worked great.
