yes, but it makes it easier for users to start playing with sharc. That's more important for us.
I'd say being in the Ubuntu repository and an apt install sharc-md
away would be even easier, but whatever suits you.

etc. are binaries that are shipped in the git repo, and thus also show up in the release tarballs. That makes it complicated for distributions to package sharc as they need to remove them first.
