Project name? #9

I think your project is very cool, but am concerned about the name.

Aside from dup being a built-in in many versions of Forth like languages, I would have that it was mnemonically associated with something that involves two of something.

Feel free to disregard (I'm just some rando from the internet), but I think this would hinder people from using/contributing to your project.

Me too

I'm very open to a rename of the project. Please post name proposals here. I'd prefer a short name for the binary (not necessarily for the project name) because I don't want every user having to define an alias.

Another issue with dup is that it's already taken on crates.io, so cargo install dup will not be possible.

archusr commented 6 years ago

fw for file/folder weight/width.

sharkdp commented 6 years ago

dup is also taken by a similar du-related tool: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/dup

A few ideas (all available on crates.io, homebrew, AUR)

My favorite so far: diskus. It is an abbreviation for "disk usage". It's a known word (German, from Latin discus ~ round plate-like object for throwing). It's still quite short.

I suppose dush pronounced D U S H or do͞osh for short is out? ;p

pardu and diskus sound great.

sharkdp commented 6 years ago

Done. Renamed to diskus.

It's already available via https://crates.io/crates/diskus
