Might be an opportunity in data collection to pick up key questions around social characteristics of fishery. Can ask questions about where social license sits and this could affect monitoring and control rule recommendations.

Related to Issue #86 Human welfare.

Note from NSW workshop: There was a sense that there was a lack of questions pertaining to economics – e.g. cautions invoked along lines of those associated with latent effort, if market prices increase, as there is increased pressure on the stock; whether interannual volatility in catch in tolerated – caution against TACs that do not have maximum tolerances specified; lack of consideration of economic/market indicators that pertain to economic/sustainability objectives (we only consider catch, effort, CPUE, spatial effort patterns, species composition) etc.

Possible avenues to incorporate this:

  1. Brian and Josh's current work
  2. Have an additional social-scientist and/or economist provide insight.
